Close view of the front driver side of a gray 2020 Mazda CX-5 parked by a sidewalk with a woman wearing a long gray jacket standing beside it. | Mazda dealer in Ellisville, MOJust how powerful is the 2020 Mazda CX-5? This small crossover SUV may surprise you. Not only does it pump out plenty of horsepower, but the CX-5 also delivers a fun-loving performance. It’s also a huge draw for driving enthusiasts, who can’t get enough of its quick throttle response and precision steering. Mazda’s small crossover has a lot to offer luxury-minded drivers as well, who love its smooth, quiet ride.

More In Power

When you’re cruising in the CX-5, you have to be careful. This sporty crossover is so quiet, committed, and powerful, that you might find yourself traveling way faster than you thought to go.

Under the hood, the 2020 CX-5 sports a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. In the Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trim levels, this engine makes 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. When you hit the throttle in these models, you can expect a quick response and even quicker acceleration.

The Grand Touring Reserve and Signature trims utilize a turbocharged version of this engine, boosting output to 227 horses and 310 pound-feet of torque (or 250 horses and 320 pound-feet of torque with premium gas). As you might expect, CX-5 crossovers with this engine are even snappier, getting you up to speed in no time. Models with this turbocharged version also come standard with sporty all-wheel drive, able to better help you swing around corners and maintain precision in rainy conditions.

Both versions of the engine are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. On paper, the CX-5 engine certainly looks impressive, but in real-world driving, it’s something else altogether. And we mean that in the best possible way.
